ABOUT ABOUT

Brenda Applegate will present “Captain Vicary and Life in Beaver County 1826 – 1842.” Using the Captain’s journal, she will discuss what his everyday life and struggles were like in Beaver County, along with some of his interactions with the Harmonists of “Economie.” His journal provides us with a unique glimpse into the historical world of a transplanted Philadelphia sea captain, and his new life as a gentleman farmer.

Brenda Applegate has been the Executive Director of the Beaver County Historical Research & Landmarks Foundation since 1998. There, she initiated such innovative programs as Windows Through History, an award-winning program for young ladies; the Western Pennsylvania Quilt Documentation Program and the Beaver County History Coalition. Mrs. Applegate is also Vice President of the George Washington Trail Committee, the Western Pennsylvania representative for the Lewis & Clark Eastern Legacy Trail and a member of the Beaver County Tourist Promotion Board. In her spare time, she is a re-enactor demonstrating historical textile arts with “Mrs. Applegate’s School of Needlework.” She is married and the mother of two sons, a schnauzer and two cats.

Event is free to the public. Seats are limited. Pre-registration is required.
